What's the difference between a claim and an allowance?

A claim reimburses a cost someone paid. An allowance is an extra payment for the work itself.

  • A claim pays someone back for something they spent, such as a taxi fare. It usually needs approval and may need a receipt.
  • An allowance is an extra amount paid because of the work, such as a night-shift allowance. It can be added automatically through a shift code or employment type, or assigned by a manager.
